Doctor Of Philosophy In Biblical-Theological Studies (Phd)

The Doctor of Philosophy in Biblical Theological Studies is an academic doctoral program that focuses on serious research into the origins, beliefs, and practices of Christianity within the Judeo-Christian tradition. The program aims to pursue a deeper knowledge of the Scriptures through courses in exegesis, theology, history, archaeology, and literary studies. The program will prepare researchers, theology professors, editors, and other specialists to operate largely from colleges, universities, and seminaries. This doctorate is offered in Puerto Rico.

Competencies
Enhance the research skills of individuals committed to biblical values and the biblical mission.
Prepare individuals engaged in teaching and research as professors and experts in the academic areas of their specialties. These individuals must excel as competent facilitators and must be properly trained to provide society with the necessary help, thus fulfilling the mission followed by the SDA Church and its institutions.
Provide opportunities for serious and intense research that will significantly contribute to theological research. Students must conduct their research with a high degree of skill and articulate their research findings well.
Ensure that the student masters their area of specialization, with extensive training in biblical languages, exegesis, biblical theology, history, and archaeology using appropriate research methods.

Curriculum
To earn the PhD degree, each student is required to take at least 64 credits. These must include 9 credits in Research, 15 credits in Christian Ministry, 9 credits in Biblical Studies, and 3 credits in History.

The PhD program in Biblical Theological Studies offers two concentrations: Old Testament (OT) and New Testament (NT). Those who choose the OT concentration will take a minor in NT, and vice versa, those who choose the NT concentration will take a minor in OT.
